March 7 Pressing Issues a Success

The Press Club of Toledo was proud to host its Pressing Issues forum on the challenges of communicating in the era of social media outrage.  It was an excellent discussion…from a great case study from Police Chief George Kral to two veteran television reporters giving a different perspective on a real-time broadcasting decision.

It’s a great example of the professional development offered to Press Club members—and a reason why you should be a Press Club member.

Thanks to Communica for being our host!  Planning for our next event is already underway!

Rescheduled: Pressing Issues Forum: Communications in the Age of Protest

Pressing Issues Forum: Communications in the Age of Protest and Social Media Outrage

5:30-7:30pm. Thursday, March 7, 2019.
Communica

Turn on a television, visit any news web site or read a newspaper, and the landscape is littered with fast-developing crisis stories and public reaction, or overreaction in some cases, through social media. The environment for journalists, corporate communications and public relations professionals alike is shifting rapidly and how we react and adapt is the topic of a panel discussion by Toledo area professionals.

Our panelists will walk us through some recent events, how they were handled and discuss changing techniques and strategies in a time of rapid dissemination of event information and public reaction through social media, and how it can shape the narrative and response of communications professionals.

This Pressing Issues forum is being hosted in partnership with Communica.

Our panelists:
Chief George Kral
Anthony Knopps, news director, Channel 11 and Fox 36
Shaun Hegarty, investigative reporter, ABC Channel 13
Amy Fitzenrider, Communica
Meghan Cunningham, Director of University Communications, University of Toledo

Panel moderator is Chrys Peterson, former news anchor of Channel 11 and principal at Chrys Peterson Consulting, LLC.

Please come to the Communica space used by AIGA Toledo at 705 Monroe St. The entrance to the building is off Monroe between Ontario and Erie. For parking, there is a pay lot across the street on the North side of Monroe, Premier Parking. For those who arrive early, there are also a few spots along the backside of the Communica building off Monroe St.
